As a hornist, he toured with the Canadian Opera Company, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Chuck Mangione Band. He has played principal horn with the Toronto Symphony as well as appearing with l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal in New York's Carnegie Hall.

Mr. Hoyt now devotes part of his time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, as well as to varied freelance musical projects. He is married to pianist Janet Scott-Hoyt and they have two daughters, both musicians.
