Chris Bagan

He completed his Bachelor’s and Masters degrees in Piano Performance at the University of Toronto as a student of Marietta Orlov.

In 2006, Mr. Bagan was the recipient of a major award from the Johann Strauss Foundation in Alberta – providing him the funding for three summers of musical studies in Austria. He has also received generous support from the Edmonton Winspear Fund, Ontario’s Graduate Fellowships and the Canada Council. Mr. Bagan has studied with Mozart scholar Robert Levin and master pedagogue Karl-Heinz Kämmerling (Mozarteum). He has performed in solo and chamber master classes with Rudolph Kehrer (Wiener Musikseminar), Jean-Yves Thibaudet (UBC), the St. Lawrence String Quartet, Bernadine Blaha (Banff Centre) and Jeno Jandó (Sommerakademi Prag-Wien-Budapest). A native of Edmonton, Mr. Bagan returned in 2005, competing as a finalist in the Shean Piano Competition and winning first prize in the Lorraine Downey Piano Competition. Most recently, Mr. Bagan was invited to participate in the semi-finals of the OSM Standard Life Competition in Montréal.

The Shean Piano Competitors 2008

The Competition is open to young amateur musicians between 15 and 28 years of age who are residents of Canada currently studying here or abroad, or to non-resident students now studying in Canada for a minimum of two school years. Six semi-finalists were chosen from the submitted discs.
