Chad Heltzel

Pianist Chad Heltzel is an American currently residing in Montréal, QC.

He is active as both a pianist and teacher, while at the same time, completing his studies at the doctoral level with Professor Marc Durand. While studying for his degree, Mr. Heltzel has performed throughout Québec and has been heard on CBC Radio. Establishing himself as a soloist, Mr. Heltzel has won several awards in Québec and has performed Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto with the University of Montréal Orchestra.

Mr. Heltzel is also a graduate of the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, where he studied with John Perry. As the school, he also had the chance to work with a number of major pedagogical figures including Leon Fleisher, Claude Frank and Richard Goode, to name a few. Mr. Heltzel has also worked under Sergei Babayan both privately as well as having attended his intensive summer piano academy.

Originally from Portland, OR, Mr. Heltzel has performed numerous times with the Oregon Symphony and has gone back to both perform and teach regularly. In his final year of high school, Mr. Hetlzel left to study at the Interlochen Arts Academy. He was a graduate with superior recognition and was a winner of the prestigious Van Cliburn Award.

The Shean Piano Competitors 2008

The Competition is open to young amateur musicians between 15 and 28 years of age who are residents of Canada currently studying here or abroad, or to non-resident students now studying in Canada for a minimum of two school years. Six semi-finalists were chosen from the submitted discs.
