Vicki Ning Wang

Born in Hangzhou, China, Vicki Ning Wang moved to Canada at the age of two and began her piano studies at the age of five.

She began her studies with Aster Lai and in 1998, became a scholarship student at the Young Artists Performance Academy of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto under the tutelage of Marietta Orlov. Currently, Ms. Wang is a third-year, double-degree student at Oberlin College and Conservatory of music studying with Angela Cheng.

Ms. Wang has won numerous prizes in various competitions including the Kiwanis Music Festival of Greater Toronto and the Canadian Music Competitions. She has also been a top prize winner at the 2003 San Sebastian International Competition for Young Pianists, the 2004 Canadian Chopin Competition – Junior Division, the 2005 Elora (TD) Festival Competition, the 2005 TD National Piano Concerto Competition and the 2007 Bösendorfer Piano Competition – winning the Pasquale Sabatino Prize for the best performance of a 19th Century work. In the fall of 2006, she was awarded third prize at the OSM Standard Life Competition.

The Shean Piano Competitors 2008

The Competition is open to young amateur musicians between 15 and 28 years of age who are residents of Canada currently studying here or abroad, or to non-resident students now studying in Canada for a minimum of two school years. Six semi-finalists were chosen from the submitted discs.
