Esther Hwang began her violin studies at the age of three in Korea and immigrated to Canada at the age of five. She is currently studying under Gerald Stanick and Lawrie Hill at the Vancouver Academy of Music.
Her debut as a soloist with an orchestra was at the age of nine. She was chosen to perform as a special guest with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for the Lover’s Ball in 2006 at the Fairmount Hotel Vancouver. She was invited again in 2009.
Ms. Hwang was a winner of the Burnaby Clef Concerto Competition and performed with the VSO in 2008, and she was a stunning featured soloist with the VSO on July 12, 2009 for the Symphony in the Park. She has also performed as a special guest at the Vancouver Recital Society’s co-presentation with the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad concert in February 2008. In May 2008, she was invited to perform for the VRS Young Masters’ Project.
Ms. Hwang was a featured soloist with the VSO in April and May 2010 for the Elementary Show. She has also performed in numerous Gala (Showcase) Concerts at local, provincial and national music competitions. She was a winner of the 2010 Canadian Music Competition National in Edmonton performed with the CMC Orchestra. She had the opportunity to attend Morningside Music Bridge in Calgary as a full tuition scholarship recipient in the summer of 2010. Ms. Hwang is an Honour Roll student in Grade 10 at Magee Secondary and is enrolled in the Magee SPARTS program.
