Ilja Scheps completed his studies at the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Professors Lev Vlassenko and Evgeni Shenderovich.

From 1982 to 1992, Professor Scheps was soloist of the Moscow Philharmonic Society. He gave concerts with orchestras and solo recitals and also appeared as accompanist of renowned singers and instrumentalists there. This resulted in his acquiring a large repertoire, including works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Scriabin, Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky, as well those by Schnittke, Sil’vestrov and Denisov. At the same time, Ilja Scheps taught at the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

Since 1992, Professor Scheps has been living in Germany. Besides his performing in many countries around of the world, he is an enthusiastic pedagogue. For many years, Ilja Scheps was a professor at the Universität Rostock and at the Darmstadt Music Academy.

He is now a professor of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln/Aachen (Cologne Music University – Aachen Campus). His students have been winners of important international piano competitions as well as becoming exclusive artists of Sony and Universal Records.

Professor Scheps also conducts workshops and master classes at several international music academies and is a visiting professor at many universities. He is also the Artistic Director of Paderewski International Piano Academy in Bydgoszcz (Poland).

He is a jury member of many international piano competitions and a Chairman of the Prix AmadèO International Piano Competition in Germany.

Professor Scheps has recorded more than 10 CDs with MCA (USA); Le Chant du Monde (France), Melodia (Russia), Coriolan/Teldec, Deutsche Welle, and ECM-Records (Germany).
