Pianist Patrick Cashin has been described as "a truly original interpretive voice" (Francesca Swann, CBC Radio). He has been heard on stages across Canada including Canada’s National Arts Centre in Ottawa, The Banff Centre for the Arts, as well as in Halifax, Montréal, Québec City, Toronto, and Mississauga. In 2008, he performed Beethoven’s third concerto with the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra in a workshop presented by the Weimar Master Classes, where he studied with renowned Hungarian pedagogue Ferenc Rados.
In 2003, Mr. Cashin won two competitions that helped launch his career, most notably the Atlantic Young Artist Competition, for which he was awarded a solo tour of the four Atlantic Provinces. In 2004, he won the Petro-Canada Young Artists Competition, and performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Cashin is a graduate of The Glenn Gould School’s Artist Diploma Program. During his two years in Toronto, he studied under Marc Durand, and also worked with guest artists Leon Fleisher, Anton Kuerti and John Perry. He holds a Masters Degree in performance from the University of Montréal and a Bachelor of Music from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Alongside his classical career, Mr. Cashin maintains a long-standing involvement with jazz and other forms of improvised music.
